Rochelle has been planning this voyage for some time with the chance to tell the story about our endangered humpback whales from the Kermadec Islands, the northernmost part of NZ to the Antarctic, the southernmost part of NZ always been at the forefront of this work. After DOC surveys reported large numbers of humpback whales passing the island she was fortunate enough to check Raoul Island as a possible study site in 2012 as part of the inaugural Sir Peter Blake Trust Young Blake Expedition.
Dr Rochelle Constantine
Rochelle is a Scientific Steering Committee Member of the International Whaling Commission – Southern Ocean Research Partnership (SORP); Coordinator of the SORP Humpback Whale Connectivity Project and member of the South Pacific Whale Research Consortium.
She leads the Marine Mammal Ecology Group at the University of Auckland. She loves working with a big team of clever people as she finds it answer conservation questions more rapidly than working alone.
