Top 5 (million) reasons to protect the Kermadec Islands

While you’re watching this incredible footage that Steve captured on our final dives at L’Havre and L’Esperance (the southern most islands in the Kermadec Islands group) you can let my dulcet tones wash over you - I just can’t leave the Kermadecs without spelling out just how important this protected marine environment is.

It’s hard to describe the burning desire to protect what’s here but it is never stronger than when you are swimming among the teeming marine life. And comparing it to marine environments closer to home that aren’t afforded the same protection. I know that only a privileged view actually get to dive here and witness it but I hope Steve’s footage has shared some of the beauty and some of our passion.

The Top 5 reasons to protect the Kermadec Islands are listed in this video diary. The Top 5 million reasons to protect this environment have scuttled, swum or floated past in the footage we’ve shared in this brief expedition.

See you back on the mainland.
